Bristol Rugby 0-39 Saracens, Ashton Gate
Scorecard
Alex Lozowski celebrated his first call-up to the England Elite Player Squad with a two-try show as he lead dominant Saracens to a 0-39 win over Bristol Rugby during the the 2016-17 English Premiership clash at Ashton Gate on Friday.
Mark McCall's reigning champions managed to put up a commanding performance by scoring five tries whereas the newcomers of this season drew a blank on the scoreboard.
Apart from Lozowski (12, 45); fullback Chris Wyles (59), hooker Jamie George (70) and lock George Kruis (78) scored tries for the visitors.
Scrum-half Ben Spencer shared the kicking responsibilities with fly-half Lozowski. Spencer managed to convert both of Lozowski's tries in addition to scoring a couple of penalties.
Lozowski took over from Spencer after the later was substituted by Richard Wigglesworth on the 55th minute. Lozowski managed to score on two out of three conversion attempts.
The bonus-point win has now placed the Sarries provisionally to the top of the points table after accumulating 20 points from five matches which includes four wins and a solitary loss against the Quins.
McCall was full of praise for Lozowski as he believes the 23-year-old is coming into own now. He also credited the fly-half for capitalising on the absence of Owen Farrell.
"It has been a bit of a whirlwind for Alex," McCall said.
"He was third choice at Wasps last season, but Owen (Farrell) has got an injury, and he has been chucked in at the deep end and done pretty well.
"We saw a player with real growth and potential. What he needed was some time in the saddle and just playing games, and he is getting that now with Owen's injury."
McCall also said the scoreline of 10-0 at the end of the first half was not good enough and lauded the team for picking themselves in the second half.
"I thought it was a really good professional performance by us," McCall added. "It wasn't perfect, but I thought we dominated the game and dominated field position.
"We put them under a lot of pressure, and 10-0 didn't feel a satisfactory lead at half-time, but I think all of that hard work paid off in the second-half and we were able to get the bonus point that we wanted.
"I was pleased with our energy, and when we had to defend we defended with real intent. The pressure eventually told, and we got what we wanted from the game, which was pleasing."
