Saracens have confirmed the signing of Tongan midfielder Sione Va'enuku ahead of the 2026/27 season after his impressive performances for Ampthill in CHAMP Rugby.

Va'enuku joins Saracens after a standout campaign with Ampthill, where he quickly emerged as one of the most exciting backs in the division.

The powerful centre has earned his first full-time professional contract in English rugby after making a strong impact at Dillingham Park.

Saracens Add Powerful Midfield Option

Va'enuku began his professional career in rugby league with Sydney Roosters before switching codes after moving to the UK.

The Tongan back spent time on trial with Northampton Saints during his first season in England before joining Ampthill midway through the 2024/25 campaign. Since then, he has developed rapidly in union and built a reputation as a dangerous attacking midfielder.

Saracens Director of Rugby Brendan Venter said Va'enuku had worked hard for the opportunity and praised his determination to develop his game.

“Sione has worked incredibly hard for this opportunity and has shown real determination in the way he has developed his game over the last couple of years.

"He is a powerful and athletic midfielder with a real hunger to improve, and we believe he has the qualities and potential to thrive in our environment. We’re looking forward to welcoming him to the club and seeing his development continue.”

Va'enuku said he was honoured to join the club and looked forward to learning from the coaches and players as he continues his development.

“I’m honoured to join such a historic club and excited for the opportunity ahead.

"I’m looking forward to learning from the coaches and the quality players in the squad, especially the backs, and continuing to grow my game in this environment.”
