Brumbies 16-35 Hurricanes, GIO Stadium
Scorecard

Jordie Barrett contributed with 20 points as Hurricanes sealed a 16-35 win over Brumbies in the first quarter-final of the Super Rugby 2017 season at GIO Stadium on Friday.

Winger James Dargaville got Brumbies off the mark with a third minute try but Hurricanes replied back with a try of their own that came through Wes Goosen as the scores were levelled.

A double penalty from Wharenui Hawera and a touchdown from Josh Mann-Rea saw Brumbies up the ante but Barrett's converted try followed by a penalty meant the difference between the two teams were down to one point at the end of the first half.

Despite a sin-bin to prop Jeff Toomaga-Allen, Brumbies failed to add any point in the second half but the defending champions showed more intent to widen the gap.

A double penalty from Barrett increased Hurricanes' lead to five points while TJ Perenara and Goosen also strolled past the post as Hurricanes completed a resounding 19 point victory to make it to the semi-final of the tournament and keep their hopes of defending the title alive.
