New All Blacks prop Siale Lauaki has signed a contract extension with the Hurricanes that will keep him at the club through the 2029 Super Rugby Pacific season.

Lauaki commits long-term future to Hurricanes

The 23-year-old has emerged through the Hurricanes’ development system and has now joined Tyrel Lomax and Cam Roigard among the players contracted to the franchise through 2029.

“I’m grateful to be with this club and to be part of the Hurricanes family,” Lauaki said. “The club has given me so many opportunities and I’m looking forward to doing my best to make the most of this latest opportunity over the next few years.”

Lauaki made his Hurricanes debut against Fijian Drua in 2024 and has since played 17 matches for the club.

Prop featured in Hurricanes title campaign

Able to play on both sides of the scrum, Lauaki featured 13 times during the Hurricanes’ 2026 Super Rugby Pacific title-winning campaign.

Lauaki developed through the Wellington and Hurricanes pathways, representing the Hurricanes at Under-18 and Under-20 level as well as New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under-20.

He made his NPC debut for Wellington as a teenager in 2022 and has since been part of two national title-winning campaigns and a Ranfurly Shield-winning side.

All Blacks breakthrough follows pathway progress

Lauaki was selected for the All Blacks XV in 2025 and featured in all three matches of their European tour against the Barbarians, England A and Uruguay.

He earned his first All Blacks selection in July 2026 and later made his Test debut against the Stormers during New Zealand’s tour of South Africa.

Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw praised Lauaki’s development, versatility and continued improvement in the set piece, while highlighting the value of retaining him alongside the club’s other front-row options.

"It’s obviously huge news for us and for him,” Hurricanes head coach Clark Laidlaw said.

“He’s a player who has developed extremely well here over the past few years through the work he’s been doing with our coaches.

“The maturity of being able to play both sides of the scrum at such a young age in Super Rugby, and then to be selected for the All Blacks on their tour of South Africa, is something he'll be hugely proud of."
