James Slipper re-signs with Brumbies for 2027

Wallabies veteran James Slipper will extend his remarkable career into a 17th Super Rugby season after re-signing with the ACT Brumbies for the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific campaign.

The 37-year-old prop has committed to another season in Canberra after continuing to play a major role for the Brumbies throughout the 2026 campaign.

Slipper holds the record for the most Super Rugby appearances, having played 212 matches since making his competition debut for the Queensland Reds in 2010.

He said his enjoyment of the game and confidence in his physical condition were important factors behind the decision to continue.

“The body still feels good, I'm enjoying my footy and I feel like I've still got plenty to contribute, both on the field and around the group,” Slipper said.

Wallabies veteran continues record-breaking career

Slipper is also Australia’s most-capped Test player, having made his 154th Wallabies appearance against Italy in July.

He had previously retired from international rugby but returned when Australia faced a shortage of available props.

His longevity has made him one of the most experienced forwards in world rugby, while his leadership remains an important part of the Brumbies environment.

Brumbies head coach Stephen Larkham said Slipper continues to perform at a high level while also providing considerable value away from match day.

"Slips is still ?playing outstanding rugby," said Larkham.

"What he brings away from game day is just as important. He's ?an exceptional leader, he drives standards every day and the knowledge he passes on to our younger players is invaluable."

The Brumbies finished sixth during the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific regular season before their campaign ended with a 66-12 playoff defeat against the Hurricanes.
