Saracens 26-12 Harlequins, StoneX Stadium

Saracens kept their Gallagher PREM play-off hopes alive with a hard-fought 26-12 win over Harlequins at StoneX Stadium.

The opening exchanges were evenly matched, with both sides involved in end-to-end kicking battles. Saracens struck first after a fierce kick chase pinned Harlequins close to their own line. A powerful scrum then forced the referee to award a penalty try, while Chandler Cunningham-South was shown a yellow card for obstruction.

Saracens almost added another when Fergus Burke cut through the Quins defence and released Max Malins, but Malins could not hold on just inches from the try line.

Malins Extends Saracens Lead

Saracens continued to press and found their second try after a quick attack down the short side. The ball moved through the hands before Ben Earl delivered a fine inside pass to Malins, who crossed just inside the 15-metre line.

The try extended Saracens’ lead to 12-0 after 26 minutes.

Harlequins had several entries into the home 22 before half-time, but they could not find a way through. Saracens defended with discipline, with Tobias Elliott and Malins especially influential as the hosts held their 12-0 advantage at the break.

Harlequins Respond After Half-Time

The second half opened with greater intensity as both sides produced a series of line breaks. Malins reacted quickly from a penalty tap inside Saracens’ own 22, sparking a 50-metre territorial gain as Elliott raced down the wing before being brought down just inside the Harlequins half.

Harlequins eventually hit back from a lineout. Will Evans reacted sharply to create space, allowing Bryn Bradley to receive the pass and crash over beneath the posts. Marcus Smith added the conversion to bring Quins back into the contest.

Saracens Finish Strongly

Saracens restored control after sustained pressure inside the Harlequins 22. Nick Tompkins crossed after Michelow and Farrell repeatedly tested the Quins defence.

Harlequins responded immediately through Cameron Anderson, who finished in the corner to keep the match alive.

Saracens, however, went straight back on the attack from the restart and won a lineout five metres out. Their driving maul did the rest, powering over for a bonus-point try with seconds remaining. Farrell added the conversion to complete the 26-12 win.

The result in Saracens’ final home outing of the season set up a winner-takes-all clash with Exeter Chiefs next weekend, keeping their play-off hopes alive.
