Harry Wells joins Bristol Bears on short-term deal

Bristol Bears have signed experienced forward Harry Wells on a three-month contract ahead of the 2026/27 Gallagher PREM season.

The 32-year-old arrives after more than a decade with Leicester Tigers, where he made 236 first-team appearances after progressing through the club’s academy.

Wells made his Tigers debut in 2013 before spending time with Bedford Blues and returning to Leicester as a senior player in 2016. He went on to become a regular presence in the Tigers pack and can operate in both the second row and back row.

He was part of Leicester’s Gallagher PREM-winning squad in 2022, when Tigers defeated Saracens 15-12 at Twickenham, and also helped the club win the 2026 PREM Cup.

Bristol strengthen back-five options

Wells has joined Bristol to provide additional depth while Josh Caulfield, Bill Mata and Khalik Kareem continue their respective injury recoveries.

Director of Rugby Pat Lam highlighted Wells’ extensive PREM experience, physicality and scrummaging ability, describing him as a player capable of making an immediate contribution during his short stay.

“Harry is a proven PREM player who brings a huge amount of quality and experience to our group," he told the club's official website.

“He’s played more than 200 games at this level, won the PREM and knows exactly what it takes to perform consistently in a demanding competition."

Wells to return to Oundle RFC

The move has been agreed with Oundle RFC, where Wells remains committed beyond his three-month spell with Bristol.

The arrangement will also give Wells an opportunity to experience a different professional environment and coaching structure as he continues developing his own coaching career.

Wells said he was excited to test himself in a new environment and contribute to Bristol before returning to Oundle following the conclusion of his short-term contract.
