Newcastle Red Bulls sign Pumas prop Francisco Moreno

Newcastle Red Bulls have strengthened their front-row options with the signing of Argentina international tighthead prop Francisco Moreno on a one-year deal ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 24-year-old arrives on Tyneside after establishing himself with Tarucas in the 2026 Super Rugby Americas competition.

Standing 6ft 1in and weighing 143kg, Moreno brings considerable size to Newcastle’s front row and has already taken his first steps at Test level with Argentina.

He made his Los Pumas debut against South Africa earlier this month, starting at tighthead as Argentina were beaten 17-10 in Buenos Aires.

Pumas prop adds Newcastle front-row depth

Moreno is currently with the Argentina squad in Jujuy as they prepare to face Australia on Saturday.

He will link up with Newcastle following the completion of his international commitments and will join fellow Argentinians Franco Molina and Simón Benítez Cruz at the club.

Head coach Dan McFarland believes Moreno’s physical attributes and early international experience make him a promising addition to the squad.

“Francisco is a relatively young tight-head who has already taken his first steps in international rugby, and shows a lot of promise.

“He’s a big man who will add to our front-row depth, and we look forward to integrating him into our group when he arrives here.”
