Scotland international Rory Hughes has penned a new two-year deal with Glasgow Warriors which will keep him committed with the Pro 12 club until May 2019.

Hughes also returns to the squad for Friday's Pro 12 clash against Scarlets after undergoing a knee surgery in December.

Hughes' Scotland team-mate Richie Vernon also returns from a shoulder injury and is set to make his first appearance this season from the bench.

Forwards Alex Allan and Rob Harley and scrum-half Henry Pyrgos also return from national duty to provide further boost to Glasgow Warriors.

South Africa Under-20 international Brandon Thomson has joined the squad as a loan on two-month contract from Super Rugby side Stormers and is relishing to be part of the Scotstoun based club.

"I was over in Zimbabwe playing a warm-up game for the Stormers when I got the call to say I could fly over here and it all happened pretty quickly.

"I came over with the main goal of getting some experience and it's good to play in a different environment and for a great club.

"I'm structured, physical and I like to run the ball out wide and keep the game loose.

"My father is from Scotland, so it's nice to be able to come over here to play."
