Glasgow Warriors have confirmed that Gloucester Rugby's defence coach Jonny Bell will join the Pro14 club as an assistant coach at the end of the ongoing season.

Bell, who has played 36 Tests for Ireland between 1994 and 2003 apart from featuring for Ulster and Northampton Saints during his playing career will work on Glasgow's attack and will be part of the backroom staff consisting of Kenny Murray, John Dalziel and Petrus du Plessis with head coach Danny Wilson also joining the club next season following Dave Rennie's departure.

"I'm thrilled and excited to be joining Glasgow Warriors next season," he told the official website of the club.

"It is a club I know well from my time with Ulster and they are blessed with a talented, hard working playing group and excellent coaches. I look forward to adding considerable value to this great environment.

"As an experienced coach, I have worked both sides of the ball throughout my career and I've had Head Coach experience with Gloucester. The opportunity to carry on the great work of Jason (O'Halloran) and Dave (Rennie) in attack was too good to turn down".

The 45-year-old also expressed his excitement to work under Wilson and wants to finish his current stint with Gloucester on a high before heading to Scotstoun.

“Danny is a coach I have known and respected for a number of years now. He has a proven track record of getting the best out of his players and staff and when we sat down to discuss the role, it was quickly evident that we were very aligned in our philosophy on the game," he added.

"That is next season. From now until the end of this season, I remain totally focused and committed to giving my best to a great playing and coaching group at Gloucester, as we aspire for success this season.”

Bell started his coaching career with Ulster as Elite Player Development Officer in 2008 before joining the Irish club as an assistant coach in 2011. His association with the Cherry and Whites came in 2015 when he joined them as defence coach and also took interim in charge of Gloucester during the 2016/17 season following Laurie Fisher's exit.
