Ollie Smith has committed his future to Glasgow Warriors after signing a new long-term contract that keeps him at Scotstoun until at least the summer of 2028.
The 25-year-old Scotland international, who is close to making his 50th appearance for his boyhood club, described the renewal as an easy decision driven by the momentum and environment within the squad.
Smith joined the Glasgow academy during the 2018/19 season and made his professional debut in January 2021.
He quickly established himself as a versatile back, capable of playing full-back, wing and outside centre. His European debut in 2022 was memorable as he scored two tries in a late cameo, one of seven he has recorded for the Warriors to date.
Smith has also made steady progress on the international stage, earning 12 caps for Scotland and scoring three tries, including one at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. This season, he has featured in multiple positions and started in four of Glasgow’s six United Rugby Championship matches.
Speaking after signing the contract, Smith said he believes the current Glasgow group is “special” and one he wants to stay part of. He credited the coaching setup and the progress made over recent seasons for influencing his decision.
“I’m very excited,” Smith told glasgowwarriors.org.
“I think the group that we’ve got here at the moment is a really good and really special group, and that’s one of the main reasons I wanted to stick around.
“I think the work we’ve done over the past few years is really impressive and the kind of momentum we’re building is something I want to be a part of.
“The coaching setup we have here is world class as well, so it was a no-brainer".
