Leicester Tigers head coach Geoff Parling has apologised after a heated pre-match confrontation with TNT Sports presenter Craig Doyle ahead of Saturday’s PREM match against Gloucester at Villa Park.
The incident took place during Leicester’s warm-up and quickly drew attention after it was shown live on air.
Geoff Parling Apologises After Craig Doyle Clash
Parling issued a public apology the day after the incident, saying it was not appropriate for viewers to see and stressing the importance of rugby remaining a family-focused sport.
“I would like to apologise for the incident pre-game yesterday – it is important we stay a family-focused game and it wasn’t appropriate for viewers to see that.
“We have a great product in the Gallagher Prem and I offer my thanks to Craig Doyle and everyone at TNT for continuing to innovate and think differently.
“After talking last night, we’ll make sure we are fully aligned behind new ideas, including when best to use them; and keep pushing our game to new audiences.”
Leicester also confirmed that apologies had been made privately to those involved on the ground. The club said the matter followed a pre-match moment in which a kick at goal was taken while Tigers players were warming up near the posts.
Leicester Tigers Raise Player Safety Concerns
The confrontation began when TNT Sports presenter Liam MacDevitt was invited to attempt a conversion during the broadcast.
The kick travelled toward the area where Leicester players were preparing, prompting an angry reaction from Parling. He later said his main concern was player safety and explained that anything creating an injury risk during a warm-up would be taken seriously by the coaching staff.
