Newcastle Red Bulls have secured the future of promising lock Oscar Usher after the 22-year-old signed a new three-year contract.

The homegrown forward has been rewarded following an impressive first full season as a professional, during which he was named the club’s Young Player of the Season for 2025-26.

Oscar Usher Commits Future to Newcastle

The County Durham native has made 23 first-team appearances after developing his game with Darlington Mowden Park and Northumbria University.

Standing 6ft 5in, Usher has established himself at Gallagher PREM level through a series of powerful performances and has emerged as one of Newcastle’s leading young forwards.

Despite still having a year remaining on his existing deal, the club has moved early to secure his future for another three seasons.

Newcastle Reward Usher’s Rapid Progress

Usher said he was delighted to extend his stay and expressed excitement about being part of the new era developing at Newcastle Red Bulls.

“I'm really happy to be extending with the club,” said Usher.

“It's a very exciting time for Newcastle Red Bulls, and I'm grateful I get to be a part of the new era.”

The 22-year-old recently returned from the club’s pre-season camp in Salzburg and will now continue preparations with the squad ahead of the new campaign.

Dan McFarland Backs Young Lock

Head coach Dan McFarland praised Usher’s work ethic and determination to improve after the lock took his opportunity at senior level.

“Creating opportunities for young local players is a massive part of what Newcastle Red Bulls are about, and Oscar has seized his chance by showing a tremendous work ethic and desire to improve.

“As a club we are absolutely committed to keeping our best young talent on board during this exciting period of growth.

"Oscar is a great example of a player stepping up and taking his opportunity, and I am very much looking forward to working with him over the next few seasons.”
