Scorecard

A four-try performance from Exeter Chiefs helped them to a bonus point win over Newcastle Falcons in their Aviva Premiership game at Kingston Park on Friday.

Centre Ollie Devoto (2') and Thomas Waldrom (33') were the try scorers for Exeter Chiefs in the first half while fly-half Gareth Steenson converted both to take the visitors to 14 points in the first half.

Hooker Scott Lawson was the lone try-scorer for Newcastle Falcons in the first 40 minutes. Fly-half Mike Delany failed to add the extras but scored a penalty as the home team trailed by seven points heading into half-time.

Wing James Short (60') and scrum half Will Chudley (77') touched the line in the second half for Exeter with Steenson adding eight more points to take their total to 32. The first try came after Newcastle Falcons lock Calum Green was sin-binned.

However, fullback Alex Tait's try in the 56th minute and two more penalties from Deanly weren't enough as they went on to lose the game by 13 points.

Exeter Chiefs are placed fourth in the table after the victory while Newcastle Falcons find themselves at ninth.

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter was pleased to secure a vital bonus point win over the Falcons.

"It's a long old trip, to be fair they're a resilient team, particularly at home where no one has had five points against them at home this season and that was pleasing.

"We started to get back to the intensity that we need to have, you can see where we need to improve, defensively we were a bit hit and miss at times but we're fighting, our maul looks strong and we were prepared to work hard.

"That helped us late on in the game when space opened up on the outside and we made some inroads, that comes from the early work and sticking to our guns."
