Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed that lock-forward Finn Baker has signed a new three-year deal with the Gallagher Prem club.
Finn Baker Signs Newcastle Red Bulls Deal
The 21-year-old made 12 first-team appearances last season, taking his overall tally for Newcastle to 15. His progress has come alongside his studies at Durham University, where he recently graduated with a geography degree.
Newcastle Red Bulls Back Local Talent
A Harrogate native, Baker came through Newcastle’s academy system after attending Sedbergh School. He also represented England at Under-18 level before making his first-team debut for Newcastle against Caldy in 2023.
Baker further strengthened his reputation through his performances for Durham University, earning selection in the BUCS Super Rugby Team of the Season.
Dan McFarland Praises Finn Baker
Incoming head coach Dan McFarland said Newcastle wanted talented local players like Baker to flourish at the club.
“We want talented local players like Finn to flourish at Newcastle Red Bulls, and it’s great that he has committed his future to the club.
“His size and athleticism at 6 foot 7 will help forge that set-piece platform which every team needs to launch their attacking game, and he is really taking his opportunity to push on in our environment".
Baker said he had enjoyed the past season and the changes around the club following the Red Bull takeover.
“I’ve really enjoyed this past season, and everything around the Red Bull takeover.
“It’s great to have had so many opportunities to play for the club, teaching me some valuable lessons. I’m really looking forward to continuing to grow and improve with the team over the coming season, and into the future.”
