Exeter Chiefs have confirmed that Australian flanker Tom Hooper has extended his contract by one year, keeping him at the club until the end of the 2027/28 season before a planned move to the Queensland Reds.
Tom Hooper Extends Exeter Chiefs Contract
Hooper has added an extra year to his existing Exeter deal after an impressive first season with the Chiefs. The 25-year-old made 23 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign and played a key role in helping the club reach the Gallagher PREM Final.
His performances also earned him a place in the Premiership Team of the Season, underlining his growing influence in English rugby.
Exeter Chiefs Retain Wallabies Flanker
Director of Rugby Rob Baxter said Exeter were pleased with Hooper’s contribution and believed his performances had been linked to the club’s strong campaign.
"We have been pleased with Tom’s input into last season, and I am sure that is related to how successful we were," said Baxter.
"We are delighted Tom will be with us for another two seasons.”
Tom Hooper To Join Queensland Reds
Hooper will return to Australia after completing his Exeter contract and is set to join the Queensland Reds ahead of the 2029 Super Rugby Pacific season.
Baxter said the club understood Hooper’s reasons for going back to Australia, noting that his family and long-term future remain there.
“We completely understand Tom’s reasons for returning to Australia. He is still a young man, his family and his roots are in Australia, and he wants to have a base there for his rugby and personal future.
"Until then, we will enjoy the next two years as Tom continues to develop his game in our domestic and European competitions.”
Hooper said he was enjoying his time in Exeter and was focused on improving his game before linking up with Queensland.
“I’m thoroughly enjoying my time in Exeter and am focused on continuing to improve my game there before returning to Australia and linking up with Queensland.”
