Newcastle sign Fiji hooker Zuriel Togiatama

Newcastle Red Bulls have signed Fiji international hooker Zuriel Togiatama from Fijian Drua on an initial one-year contract ahead of the new season.

The 27-year-old arrives at Kingston Park with considerable experience in Super Rugby Pacific and international rugby. Togiatama has earned 14 caps for Fiji and made 50 appearances for Fijian Drua.

He became only the sixth Drua player to reach the 50-appearance milestone, achieving the feat during the closing stages of the 2026 Super Rugby Pacific season.

The six-foot hooker previously played provincial rugby for Counties Manukau in New Zealand, where he was a teammate of Newcastle back-rower Hoskins Sotutu. He also developed at Wesley College, one of New Zealand’s most recognised rugby schools.

Newcastle Strengthen Hooker Options

Togiatama’s arrival provides Newcastle with additional quality and experience at hooker following an injury setback for summer recruit George Turner.

The Scotland international is expected to spend time on the sidelines after suffering an Achilles injury towards the end of last season. Togiatama will now add competition and depth to Newcastle’s front row as the club prepares for the new campaign.
