Newcastle Red Bulls have bolstered their playmaking options by signing South African fly-half Boeta Chamberlain on a one-year deal starting after the 2025 Currie Cup.
The 26-year-old, who also covers full-back, moves from the Blue Bulls to Tyneside, marking a rare transition from Blue Bulls to Red Bulls.
Chamberlain brings strong credentials, having made 59 appearances for the Sharks—scoring over 150 points—before moving to the Bulls last year.
He featured in both the United Rugby Championship and EPCR competitions, gaining solid experience in northern hemisphere rugby. The former Paarl Boys' High pupil also represented South Africa at U20 level.
Director of Rugby Steve Diamond praised his arrival, saying: “Boeta will help take our attack to the next level. He has a strong kicking game, links well with players around him, and fits our style of play.”
Chamberlain expressed his excitement: “Joining the Premiership is a dream come true.
"This move comes at an exciting time as Newcastle evolves under new ownership. I can't wait to bring some attacking flair and contribute to the team.”
He joked about the name switch, adding: “Going from the Blue Bulls to the Red Bulls—we've had a good laugh about that.”
