Newcastle have confirmed the signing of back-five forward Fergus Lee-Warner on a one-year deal, bringing the experienced Australian to the Gallagher Premiership for the 2025/26 season.

The 31-year-old, who is English-qualified, joins from the New South Wales Waratahs and is set to arrive in the North East in mid-September. Standing 6ft 4in, Lee-Warner can play both in the second row and across the back row, giving the squad added flexibility.

He began his professional career with Western Force in Australia before moving to England, where he represented Worcester Warriors and later Bath Rugby.

After a season and a half in the Premiership, he returned to Sydney to join the Waratahs and recently featured in their match against the British & Irish Lions.

Newcastle Welcome Physicality and Experience

Newcastle’s director of rugby Steve Diamond, who previously coached Lee-Warner at Worcester, expressed his enthusiasm over the move.

“Fergus will add physicality and experience to our forward pack,” Diamond said.

“He’s a strong line-out option who knows the Premiership well and has been competing at a consistently high level. Having worked with him before, I know the quality he will bring into our environment.”

Lee-Warner Excited for Premiership Return

Speaking about his return to English rugby, Lee-Warner shared his excitement.

“I couldn’t be more excited to return to the Premiership,” he said. “I’m incredibly grateful to Dimes for reaching out, especially after our time at Worcester was cut short.

"I can’t wait to get stuck in, work hard, and contribute to what the club is building here. The supporters are passionate, and I’m looking forward to being part of this next chapter.”
