Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed the signing of New Zealand flanker Tom Christie on a two-year contract, set to begin in autumn 2025.
Christie, 27, brings a proven track record—having helped the Crusaders win three Super Rugby Pacific titles in the last four years and currently starring for unbeaten Canterbury in the National Provincial Championship.
Renowned for his work rate and reliability, Christie has also captained New Zealand’s Under-20 side.
Steve Diamond, Newcastle’s Director of Rugby, called the signing “a real statement of intent about where we want to take this club.”
He praised Christie as “a real ‘glue’ player who has consistently enjoyed success in New Zealand,” adding, “He’s at a fantastic age, he’s in top shape and is brilliant at the basics.”
Christie himself expressed enthusiasm:
“I’m incredibly excited to be joining Newcastle, a club with such a rich history and passionate fanbase. With the plans and backing from the new investors, I believe we can achieve something special.
"After my conversation with Steve I knew this was where I wanted to be. I can’t wait to contribute to the team and help the club achieve its goals.”
