Super Rugby's Team of the Week - Round 11

The Super Rugby team of round 11 has a real Hurricanes flavour with four players making the cut; while the Stormers, Cheetahs and Reds also contributed more than one player to the team which is calculated using statistics from the weekend’s games.

Hurricanes outside backs seem to be hot property in Super Rugby 2014, with Julian Savea being one of the best outside backs of the year; while Cory Jane and Andre Taylor really thrived in Round 11 courtesy of a Jane hat-trick and a strong Hurricanes performance under departing coach Mark Hammett. Cory Jane is one of several experienced All Blacks who are starting to hit their straps in Super Rugby 2014…

About half of the fantasy managers out there would have been hurt by the late withdrawal of top hooker Bismarck du Plessis and, with a shortage of trades due to multiple teams having byes in recent weeks and several injuries, then there will be plenty of people sweating on his fitness.

There will also be some players at their cheapest coming off the bye from the Lions, Crusaders and Rebels. This means players like Kieran Read, Scott Higganbotham, Sam Whitelock and Jason Woodward are options, while the Force have the bye in Super Rugby Round 12.  Managers need to be careful to look ahead at the draw so they get at least four or five games out of each of their players.

There were also some bargain priced players who made the Team of Round 11, including Bulls lock Paul Willemse and Stormers loose-forward Nizaam Carr.

There was a real mix of players from different countries to make the cut, which is in some ways surprising, given that only one South African team won in the round – yet they had the most players.
