The revised schedule for the Super Rugby Pacific has been announced due to the imposed trans-Tasman travel restrictions.

The season that kicks-off on 18th February was originally scheduled with trans-Tasman games in the initial rounds but with the New Zealand government not relaxing the quarantine rules for the players travelling into the country, the organisers have announced the revised fixture with the opening nine rounds to have local derbies clashes.

Even though the overall format will not see a change, rounds 10 and 11 is set to be played in Melbourne with a hope that the travel restrictions in New Zealand will be removed by May.

“I’d like to thank Rugby Australia and all 12 Super Rugby clubs, and all our fans and partners, for their understanding, patience and flexibility in ensuring the competition is locked and loaded for 2022," said New Zealand Rugby’s competitions and performance boss Chris Lendrum.

“The season opener between Moana Pasifika and the Blues shapes as an historic occasion in Auckland, as does the Fijian Drua’s first match against the Waratahs on the same night.”

Rugby Australia chief executive Andy Marinos highlighted on the challenges imposed by the Covid-19 and is pleased in announcing the revised schedule.

“We’re pleased to be able to confirm the revised draw for Super Rugby Pacific. We believe these changes will allow us to navigate the ongoing challenges of Covid-19, while ensuring we maintain the integrity of the draw and the format of the new Super Rugby Pacific competition.

“It’s been a challenging environment over the last two years, but we’re thankful to our teams and our partners in New Zealand Rugby, SANZAAR and our broadcasters for their support as we worked through this process together.

“This is an exciting new era for Rugby in the Pacific and I would encourage all fans to get out and support their teams and sign up to catch all the action.”
