Super Round returns to Christchurch in 2027

Super Rugby Pacific has confirmed that Super Round will return to Otautahi Christchurch in 2027, bringing all 10 teams together at One New Zealand Stadium from April 2-4 for five matches across three days.

The event will form Round 8 of the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season following the success of Christchurch’s 2026 edition.

Action begins on Friday, April 2, when the Crusaders face the ACT Brumbies at 7.35pm local time.

Saturday features a double-header, with the Chiefs meeting Western Force at 5.05pm before the Blues take on the NSW Waratahs at 7.35pm.

The Highlanders face Fijian Drua at 2pm on Sunday, with the Hurricanes completing the weekend against Queensland Reds at 4.30pm.

Christchurch builds on successful 2026 event

The three-day festival will again combine Super Rugby matches with entertainment and fan activities around Christchurch.

ChristchurchNZ, Super Rugby Pacific and the New Zealand Government have partnered to bring the event back, with government support provided through the Events Attraction Package.

The return is also expected to deliver another boost to Christchurch’s visitor economy as supporters from New Zealand, Australia and Fiji travel to the city.

Super Rugby Pacific targets another major weekend

Super Rugby Pacific CEO Jack Mesley described the 2026 edition as one of the competition’s best weekends and believes the Round 8 positioning will provide momentum heading into the latter stages of the season.

"Super Round delivered one of the best weekends in our competition's history in 2026 and we can't wait to go even bigger in 2027.

"Its positioning in Round 8 provides the perfect springboard into a very exciting stretch in our season, as we build towards the first-ever Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup match in Round 11.

“Ten teams, one city, and an unforgettable weekend for the fans. We look forward to working with ChristchurchNZ and the New Zealand government to bring the best of our competition to Otautahi Christchurch once again."

The 2027 Super Round will also come three weeks before the first Anzac Day Bledisloe Cup Test in Round 11.
