Newcastle Falcons have confirmed that back-row forward Ollie Leatherbarrow has signed a two-year contract extension, committing his future to the club beyond the current season.
The 21-year-old flanker made his senior debut for the Falcons during the 2023–24 campaign and has quickly impressed with his work rate, physicality, and ball-carrying ability.
A former Scotland Under-20 international, Leatherbarrow qualifies for the national team through his heritage and has represented the country at age-grade levels.
Originally from Macclesfield, he came through the youth ranks at Knutsford RFC and was part of the Sale Sharks academy before moving into the university system. While studying, he captained Exeter University’s BUCS Super Rugby side and helped them win back-to-back national titles.
Leatherbarrow expressed pride and excitement about staying with the Falcons.
“I’m massively excited to have re-signed. It’s a great environment here, and I’m focused on continuing to grow, develop, and push for a regular first-team place,” he said.
Interim head coach Mark Laycock welcomed the contract extension, noting Leatherbarrow’s potential and energy.
“Ollie brings strong go-forward and adds further competition in our back row. He’s a hard-working player who will only get better with more experience at the top level.”
