Newcastle Falcons 47-26 Nottingham

Newcastle Falcons warmed up for the new season with a 47-26 win over Championship side Nottingham during their pre-season game at home on Saturday.

The game was divided into three phases of 30 minutes each and the Falcons got a head start when Adam Radwan crossed over inside three minutes and Joel Hodgson slotted the conversion. However, Nottingham responded back and went on to level the scores with Sean Scanlon crossing over four minutes later.

The visitors went into the lead for the first time in the game with a touchdown from Jack Spittle but the hosts were unwilling to relent with a try from Josh Matavesi and a conversion from Hodgson by the end of the first quarter took them into a two point lead.

Jamie Blamire ensured the third try for the Falcons came at the half-hour mark when he pounced on a loose ball from Nottingham as the scoreline came to 21-12 by half time.

The break did not halt the momentum from Dean Richards' men as the fourth try came within a minute with Andrew Davidson rolling over and Brett Connon kicked the extras to make it 28-12.

Scanlon with his second kept Nottingham in the game but prop Jack Payne stretched Newcastle Falcons' lead to 35-19 with the side's fifth try. Further tries from Glen Young and Dominic Waldouck took the Falcons' tally to 47 points before the visitors reduced the losing margin to 21 points with a final gasp try in the left corner from a diving maul.
