Ealing Trailfinders 16-34 Yorkshire Carnegie, Ealing

Jonah Holmes scored a double as Yorkshire Carnegie have their one foot in the final of Greene King IPA Championship after defeating Ealing Trailfinders by 16-34 in the first leg of the play-off at Ealing on Friday.

Rory Clegg kicked the hosts into an early lead in the first leg, before Carnegie took control with two tries from Holmes.

He claimed his first try after racing onto a pass to go under the posts following a strong maul from the visitors and he then won the race to pick up Joe Ford's cross-field kick to touch down. Ford added the extras to both scores.

Alex Davies then crossed for Carnegie's third try after Ford had burst clear following an interception.

Ford added a drop-goal to his third conversion as the visitors went into the break 24-3 up.

Will Harris got Ealing back into the game before Clegg added another penalty and Curtis Wilson went in the corner after the ball was spun wide.

Ryan Burrows settled Carnegie's nerves as he picked the ball up from the base of a scrum and Ford took his tally to 18 points.

The second leg takes place in Yorkshire next Friday.
