Ealing Trailfinders have announced Alex Walker as the captain for the upcoming season of the Greene King IPA Championship.

Walker joined the Trailfinders in 2014 and in the last season he featured in 22 games while scoring two tries in it. The scrum-half won the Supporters' player of the Year for a second consecutive season and was also named the best defensive player in the 2014 season.

Walker, who has represented the Wales sevens national team said it was a privilege to lead the side and is looking forward for the challenges ahead.

"It's a huge honour for me to be asked to be Ealing Trailfinder's club captain,” Walker said. "I am now into my third season at Vallis Way and I have enjoyed the challenges that the past two seasons have brought; winning National One was a particular highlight.

"Last season was tough at times, playing in the Greene King IPA Championship, but I think we matured as a team and this will put us in good stead for the forthcoming season.

"Ealing Trailfinders have recruited well this year, on and off the pitch, and the impact of these signings has been felt throughout our pre-season. I am thoroughly looking forward to our first home match and I hope to see many of our dedicated supporters there.”

Director of rugby at Ealing Trailfinders Ben Ward lauded Walker's commitment in the first two seasons and is hopeful of an improved performance from the club in the upcoming season.

"Alex has been at the club for a couple of seasons and has always performed to a high level whenever he has pulled on the jersey,” Ward said. "His professionalism has shone throughout pre-season on and off the pitch.

"He is always one of the first to arrive every morning, works hard every day and cares about the club. He was the outstanding candidate to represent the values that as a group we want to be known for.”

Ealing Trailfinders had a disappointing outing in the previous season after finishing 11th.
