Newcastle Falcons have confirmed that lock-forward John Hawkins has extended his stay with the club by signing a new one-year contract.
The 28-year-old has become a reliable figure in the Falcons squad since joining from Jersey Reds, making 32 appearances over two seasons.
Hawkins, who stands at 6 feet 5 inches, began his rugby journey in the Northampton Saints academy before moving to Bristol Bears, where he developed his game further. He joined Newcastle ahead of the 2022–23 season and has since become a key presence in the second row.
Speaking after signing his new deal, Hawkins said, “I’m very excited to be signing on for another year.
"The club gave me a chance two seasons ago which I’ll always be grateful for, and hopefully I can keep wearing the jersey and giving it my best.
"It’s an exciting time to be part of the club and I’m looking forward to getting stuck into the new season.”
Falcons director of rugby Steve Diamond praised Hawkins' commitment and work ethic.
“John is a hard-working player who will always put a shift in. He gives us options in the second row and at six, and he sets a great example for our younger players with the professionalism he shows around the place every single day,” Diamond said.
