Glasgow beat Munster 22-5 at Thomond Park to become the first Scottish side to taste victory at the ground for six years.

Gregor Townsend's side made it four RaboDirect Pro12 wins on the bounce to put them just three points behind Munster with a game in hand.

They kept their play-off push on track by scoring three tries in the first half, Jonny Gray, Sean Maitland and Josh Strauss putting them 22-5 up at the break.

CJ Stander, who was outstanding during Munster's Heineken Cup quarter-final win over Toulouse last week, scored the home side's only try as they slumped to a first home defeat of the season.

They showed seven changes from last week's match and the Warriors quickly moved into a 10-point lead as Gray crossed for his first league try, Duncan Weir adding a simple conversion.

Weir added a penalty in the ninth minute before Munster belatedly got going, Simon Zebo and JJ Hanrahan almost working a score before they set Stander up to cross to the right of the posts.

Hanrahan missed the conversion and came off soon after with an injury before Glasgow restored their 10-point lead as Maitland beat Zebo to score wide on the right.

That made it 15-5 and Weir missed the tricky conversion before Munster coughed up a great chance to close the gap further when Stander opted to kick ahead instead of passing to Gerhard van den Heever on his shoulder.

Glasgow made them pay for their profligacy when Strauss scored after a Glasgow attack had been foiled close to the line.

Weir added the extras to put his side 17 points ahead at the break, and there would be no further scoring in the match as the defences remained on top.
