Munster Rugby have confirmed the signing of Australian utility back Will Harrison from Japanese side Kintetsu Liners on a one-year deal, adding further depth and versatility to their backline options.
Will Harrison Joins Munster Rugby
Harrison joins Munster as a left-footed playmaker capable of covering out-half, full-back and centre. His arrival gives the province another flexible option across the backline ahead of the new season.
The Australian back developed a strong reputation early in his career after captaining the Australian Schoolboys and emerging as one of the country’s most promising young playmakers.
Munster Sign Australian Utility Back
Harrison made history in 2020 when he became the youngest player to start at out-half for the NSW Waratahs, making his debut against the Crusaders. His performances quickly earned him recognition at senior level, including a call-up to the Wallabies squad.
Before that, he had led Australia U20s to the Junior World Championship final in 2019, starting at out-half as they were narrowly beaten by France. He later scored 257 points in 38 appearances for the Waratahs before moving to Japan in 2024.
Will Harrison Adds Backline Versatility
Harrison said he was excited to join a province with Munster’s history and passionate supporter base.
“I’m extremely excited to be joining such a proud province. From my first conversations with the club, it felt like a place I wanted to be.
“Munster has a rich history and a passionate supporter base, and it’s a privilege to have the opportunity to be part of that.
"I’m looking forward to getting over to Ireland, meeting the players, staff and supporters, and working hard every day to contribute in any way I can to the success of the team.”
Munster General Manager Ian Costello said Harrison’s left-footed kicking game and ability to play across the backline would bring balance to the squad.
“We are delighted that Will has made the decision to join Munster.
“As a left-footed playmaker we feel he will add more balance to the squad and his ability to play across the backline is a real point of difference.
“Highly regarded from a young age, Will has battled through some challenges. We have been impressed with his character, his dedication, and his ambition to play at the very highest level of the game.
“We would like to extend a warm welcome to Will and look forward to him contributing to a successful season at the club.”
