Munster Rugby have confirmed that experienced back-row forward Jack O’Donoghue has signed a one-year contract extension, keeping him with the province for another season.

O’Donoghue has been a regular captain for Munster over the past eight years and remains a key figure in the squad. The 32-year-old has made 17 appearances so far this season and continues to play an important role in the province’s forward group.

Jack O’Donoghue Munster Career Highlights

The Waterford native has scored 31 tries in 236 appearances since making his Munster debut in 2014. He came through the ranks at Waterpark RFC and was named Munster Rugby Academy Player of the Year in 2015 before establishing himself in the senior side.

O’Donoghue made his Ireland debut against Canada in 2016 and earned a second cap against Japan in 2017. In 2018, he became the first Waterford player to captain Munster in the professional era when he led the side away to Cardiff.

Munster Leader Stays For Another Season

Among the major milestones in his career, O’Donoghue reached 100 Munster appearances in 2019 after returning from a serious knee injury. He was named Munster Player of the Year in the 2021/22 season and played a major role in the province’s 2022/23 URC title-winning campaign.

He also became the youngest player in Munster history to reach 200 caps when he achieved the landmark away to Edinburgh in May 2024. His new deal means Munster will keep one of their most experienced and trusted leaders for at least another year.
