Will Rigg will join Newcastle Red Bulls this summer after agreeing a two-year deal, bringing an end to his spell with Exeter Chiefs.
The 25-year-old centre has scored 10 tries in 30 appearances for Exeter since arriving from Coventry, having previously developed through the BUCS Super Rugby pathway with Cardiff Met.
Known for his direct running and physical presence, Rigg is capable of playing in either centre position.
Rigg said the opportunity to move to the North East was one he could not turn down, pointing to the ambition and long-term vision at Newcastle as key factors behind his decision.
“I am absolutely thrilled to be joining what I feel is one of the most exciting projects in rugby at the moment," he said.
“Speaking to the club and seeing the ambition and vision excited me greatly, and can’t wait to get stuck into things up there.”
Newcastle Red Bulls sporting general manager Neil McIlroy said Rigg’s line-breaking ability and pace will add a valuable dimension to the club’s attacking options.
“Will has shown plenty of line-breaking ability during his time with Exeter, which will be a big asset for us as we look to build our game over the next few seasons.
“He’s a physical ball carrier with a good turn of pace, and I’m looking forward to seeing his continued progress within our environment.”
