Newcastle Red Bulls have confirmed that back-row forward Ollie Leatherbarrow has signed a new two-year contract, extending his stay at Kingston Park.

The 23-year-old joined Newcastle in the summer of 2023 and has made 28 appearances to date across all competitions. This season, Leatherbarrow has featured seven times and crossed for three tries, continuing to establish himself within a competitive back-row unit.

A former Scotland Under-20 international, Leatherbarrow came to professional rugby after captaining Exeter University in BUCS Super Rugby, where he won back-to-back titles.

He previously spent time in the Sale Sharks academy before making the step into the senior professional game.

Speaking after signing his extension, Leatherbarrow said he was pleased to secure his future at the club and eager to play his part in the next phase of Newcastle’s development.

“I really enjoy it here and I’m delighted to have another two years with the club," he told the club's official website.

“There are a lot of new faces but it’s a great set of lads, and I’m looking forward to being part of what will be a really exciting future here under Red Bull.

“I know I need to make the most of my opportunities when they come around because it’s a hugely competitive back-row group here. I’m just buzzing to be part of it during this exciting period for the club, and am really happy to have the contract sorted.”
