Former Scotland international Scott Lawson has been appointed as the new head coach of Bristol Bears Women ahead of the 2025–26 Premiership Women’s Rugby (PWR) season.
The move marks a significant step in the club’s preparations for a new era in English women’s rugby, with Lawson set to take over following the departure of former head coach Dave Ward earlier this year.
Lawson brings considerable experience to the role, having earned 47 caps for Scotland as a hooker during his playing career.
Known for his leadership and deep understanding of forward play, Lawson has also built a strong reputation in coaching circles over the past few years.
His appointment is expected to boost the technical and tactical edge of the Bears’ women’s squad, particularly in areas such as set-piece execution and breakdown management.
In a statement following his appointment, Lawson said he is "relishing the challenge ahead," signalling a strong commitment to driving Bristol’s ambitions forward both on and off the pitch.
Lawson takes the reins at a time when the PWR landscape is seeing widespread changes, with several clubs overhauling their coaching setups.
The new PWR season is scheduled to begin on 25 October 2025, following a delayed start to accommodate the Women’s Rugby World Cup.
