Crusaders are likely to miss the services of their captain and New Zealand international Scott Barrett for the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa competition following a foot injury.

The 26-year-old already missed the opening game of the tournament on Sunday against Hurricanes which they went on to win 25-39 at Sky Stadium.

Crusaders head coach Scott Robertson said the 6ft 6in lock will consult a specialist following a scan next week.

“It is with a specialist currently, and they are going to make a call once they have re-scanned his [Barrett’s] foot this week,” Robertson told stuff.co.nz.

“We should have a definitive decision on Friday, if he is going to be here for Super Rugby Aotearoa.”

In the absence of Barrett, Codie Taylor led Crusaders in the opening match against the Canes while they also have the experienced Sam Whitelock in their squad.

Crusaders' next game is against Chiefs that will be played at Orangetheory Stadium in Christchurch on 28th June.
