Hurricanes 38-31 Crusaders

The Hurricanes strengthened their position at the top of the Super Rugby Pacific table with a 38-31 win over the Crusaders in a hard-fought contest.

The result lifted them above the Chiefs, who were on a bye, while also damaging the Crusaders’ hopes of securing a home final later in the campaign.

The Crusaders opened the scoring through Leicester Fainga’anuku, who crashed over after sustained early pressure. The Hurricanes responded well and gradually took control, with Du’Plessis Kirifi getting on the scoresheet before the visitors pulled clear late in the first half.

Josh Moorby crossed after a slick attacking move involving Billy Proctor and Peter Lakai, while Cam Roigard finished another key moment as the Hurricanes built a 24-10 lead by the break.

Key Moments Shape Hurricanes Victory

The second half remained intense as both teams traded tries. Noah Hotham helped keep the Crusaders in the contest, but the Hurricanes answered quickly through replacement hooker Raymond Tuputupu. Rivez Reihana then made a strong impact off the bench for the Crusaders to close the gap and keep the result in the balance.

Fehi Fineanganofo scored another important try for the Hurricanes to restore breathing room, continuing his excellent scoring form this season. Dom Gardiner’s late try for the Crusaders ensured a tense finish, but the home side could not find the final score they needed.

The Crusaders came close to creating one last chance in the closing moments, but the Hurricanes held on to secure a vital victory.

The win puts them firmly at the top of the ladder heading into the next round, while the Crusaders at least collected a losing bonus point from a match that could still have major implications in the race for playoff positions.
