GB Sevens will miss the services Alex Davis in the upcoming Olympics after the former Loughborough University student was ruled out of the showpiece event with an ankle injury.

Davis, who grew up in Bristol has played for Loughborough Students for four years and has represented the London Welsh team in World Cup 10s before joining the GB Sevens students team.

The British Olympic Association announced that Ruaridh McConnochie, who has been a travelling reserve with the squad will replace Davis while Luke Treharne and Charlie Hayter will now serve as a cover for the squad in Rio.

Head coach Simon Armor was satisfied with the progress the squad has shown leading to the tournament and welcome Ruaridh to the playing squad.

Ruaridh was a part of the 2014 World University Sevens Championship winning Great Britain Students team in Brazil.

"Since day one of coming together as GB Sevens this group has had to adapt and they have done so better than I thought possible. Ruaridh will become part of the competing 12 and the group will continue to pull together as the focus remains on delivering for Team GB in Rio."
