Harlequins 19-26 Gloucester, Twickenham Stoop
Gloucester Rugby returned to Gallagher PREM action with a hard-fought 26-19 victory over Harlequins at The Stoop.
After trailing at halftime, the Cherry and Whites produced a strong second-half response to turn the match around and secure a valuable away win.
The contest swung several times, with both teams enjoying periods of dominance, but Gloucester finished the stronger side and took control in the closing stages.
Gloucester Start Strong Through Clement
Gloucester began brightly and applied early pressure inside the Harlequins half. Their positive start produced the first try of the match when Jack Clement powered over from close range following a quick tap penalty. Charlie Atkinson converted to give the visitors a 7-0 lead.
However, Gloucester suffered an early setback when scrum-half and captain Tomos Williams was forced off with a shoulder injury.
Harlequins responded well and soon levelled the scores. Ben Waghorn forced his way over from short range before Marcus Smith converted. The home side then moved ahead when Smith finished a sharp attacking move from a lineout, stepping through the defence and converting his own try to make it 14-7.
Gloucester Stay Competitive Before The Break
Gloucester faced another challenge when Lewis Ludlow received a yellow card for a dangerous clear-out late in the first half.
Despite being reduced to 14 players, the Cherry and Whites controlled long stretches of possession and territory before the break. However, they were unable to convert their pressure into points and Harlequins carried a 14-7 lead into halftime.
Gloucester Fight Back After Halftime
The second half began slowly as both teams struggled to create clear scoring opportunities.
Gloucester eventually broke through just before the hour mark. A mistake in the Harlequins backfield allowed Caolan Englefield to gather the ball and release Ben Redshaw in a two-on-one situation, with the winger finishing in the corner. The conversion attempt missed, leaving Gloucester trailing by two points.
Harlequins quickly restored their advantage when Jack Kenningham powered over following a penalty that gave the hosts field position close to the Gloucester line.
Atkinson And Clark Seal Gloucester Comeback
Gloucester refused to fade and produced an immediate response. A strong break from Mati Alemanno created quick ball and Englefield moved it wide for Charlie Atkinson, who stepped through the defensive line to score and convert his own try to level the match at 19-19.
The decisive moment arrived with eight minutes remaining. Gloucester launched another forward drive that was initially halted, but Arthur Clark reacted quickly at the breakdown and forced his way over to score. Atkinson added the conversion to give the visitors a seven-point lead.
Gloucester managed the closing minutes well and held firm defensively to secure a 26-19 victory at The Stoop.
