Peter O'Mahony has resumed training this week as Munster prepare for their Champions Cup Round of 16 clash against La Rochelle.
The veteran flanker had missed the recent United Rugby Championship win over Connacht after picking up a minor knock, but his return to the training pitch offers a timely boost.
Although he's back in action, a final decision on his availability for the weekend’s knockout game in France will be made closer to match day.
O'Mahony’s potential return would provide a major lift for Munster, especially given his experience and leadership in high-pressure European fixtures.
The province is also monitoring John Hodnett, who was forced off against Connacht with a thigh contusion. Like O'Mahony, his fitness will be assessed throughout the week before a call is made on his inclusion.
Meanwhile, the squad has received some good news on the injury front. Craig Casey, Oli Jager, Jean Kleyn, and Niall Scannell all made successful returns in the Connacht match and came through unscathed.
The reintegration of these key players comes at a crucial juncture in the season.
Additionally, both Thaakir Abrahams and Jack O'Donoghue are making strides towards full fitness, having returned to training last week. Their availability could offer more depth in selection options for the Champions Cup encounter.
However, several players remain sidelined. Billy Burns (shoulder), Shane Daly (hamstring), Diarmuid Kilgallen (thigh), Mike Haley (ankle), Dave Kilcoyne (Achilles), Liam Coombes (chest), Edwin Edogbo (Achilles), and Roman Salanoa (knee) are all continuing with rehabilitation and will not feature this week.
