Leigh Halfpenny joins Cardiff coaching staff

Leigh Halfpenny will remain with Cardiff Rugby on a full-time coaching basis after retiring from playing and continuing his transition into the next stage of his rugby career.

Leigh Halfpenny Joins Cardiff Coaching Staff

The 37-year-old returned to Cardiff Rugby last season as a player-coach before retiring in May. He ended his playing spell in Blue and Black with 90 appearances and 570 points for the club.

Halfpenny recently worked with the Wales senior men’s squad as kicking coach during the first three rounds of the Nations Championship. He will now return to Cardiff Arms Park in a full-time role as part of the club’s coaching structure.

Cardiff Rugby Appoint Kicking Coach

Halfpenny will work with the Cardiff senior squad as kicking coach, supporting goal-kicking, touch kicking and technical development across the playing group.

He will also spend time in the academy as a skills coach, helping younger players develop their core game.

“I am thrilled to join Cardiff on a full-time basis. It is a club that means a huge amount to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Arms Park as I continued my transition from player to coach last season.

“There is a great group of players, who I enjoyed working with last season, and I believe I can add value to the group, while also helping the young players coming through.

“It was a huge honour to work with Wales again this summer, I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity l and I’m looking forward to bringing that experience back to the club.”

Halfpenny Begins Full-Time Coaching Role

During his playing career, Halfpenny won 101 Wales caps, three Six Nations titles and two Grand Slams. He also sits third on Wales’ all-time men’s points list with 801 points.

The former Wales and British & Irish Lions full-back toured three times with the Lions and was named Player of the Series in 2013.
