The Crusaders have secured 20-year-old "hybrid" forward Oli Mathis on a contract through the end of 2028.
He will link up with the Wider Training Group in 2026 and join the full Super Rugby squad for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.
Hailing from Waihi and educated at Hamilton Boys’ High, Mathis captained the New Zealand Schools team in 2023 and earned recognition as one of the sport’s leading young prospects.
Mathis made his NPC debut with Waikato in 2024 and featured in the 2025 NZ Under-20 team that reached the World Championship final.
He has also played in the All Blacks Sevens programme, showcasing his speed and skill in the shorter format.
"I got a taste of the Crusaders environment and culture this year, and i'm really looking forward to being there full time in the wider training group for next season and leading into 2027 and 2028," he told the club's official website.
"To be able to take the opportunity to learn off some exciting & established talent - Lio-Willie & Blackadder just to name a couple, is what is motivating me"
