Munster Rugby, in partnership with the IRFU, has confirmed a two-year contract extension for attack coach Mike Prendergast.

This announcement solidifies his role with the club through the 2026 season.

Prendergast, currently in his third season with Munster, rejoined the province in 2022 after an illustrious decade coaching in France. His tenure included stints at top clubs such as Racing 92, Stade Français, Oyonnax, and Grenoble.

Since his return, Prendergast has been instrumental in shaping Munster’s dynamic attacking strategies.

His contributions were pivotal during the 2022/23 season when Munster clinched the United Rugby Championship title, showcasing thrilling and effective rugby throughout the campaign.

Last season, Munster continued to thrive offensively, finishing at the top of the URC table after the regular season before exiting in the semi-finals.

A former scrum-half for Munster, Bourgoin, and Gloucester, Prendergast transitioned seamlessly into coaching.

Prior to joining Munster’s professional setup, he served as head coach and director of rugby for Young Munster RFC, marking his leadership credentials early on.

The announcement of Prendergast’s extension coincides with the renewal of Munster’s defence coach Denis Leamy, who has also signed a two-year contract extension.

Munster are positioned 12th in the United Rugby Championship table with two wins from six matches.
