Munster Rugby has announced the appointment of Alex Codling as interim forwards coach consultant.

The former English international brings extensive coaching expertise to the Irish province during a pivotal phase of their season.

Codling, who previously worked with Ireland Women’s Rugby as their forwards coach, boasts a wealth of experience across both domestic and international rugby.

He has held coaching roles in England and France, making him a well-rounded addition to Munster’s coaching team.

His appointment comes amid significant changes within Munster’s management, including the recent departures of former head coach Graham Rowntree and forwards coach Andi Kyriacou.

Codling’s interim role is expected to provide stability as the province continues its search for permanent replacements.

The decision to bring in Codling reflects Munster’s commitment to maintaining high performance standards and ensuring their players receive top-tier coaching.

With the United Rugby Championship (URC) and European competitions in full swing, Codling’s expertise in forward play will be critical in sharpening the team’s set-piece execution and overall physicality.

Interim head coach Ian Costello expressed confidence in Codling’s ability to contribute meaningfully during this transitional period.

“Alex’s extensive background in coaching forwards at an elite level will bring valuable insights to our squad. We’re excited to integrate his expertise into our system,” Costello stated.

Munster is gearing up for key matches in the URC, including a clash against the Lions at Thomond Park.
