Hurricanes 17-33 Chiefs, Sky Stadium

Chiefs have returned to the top of the Super Rugby Pacific table as they defeated Hurricanes 33-17 in the latest round of the Super Rugby Pacific at Sky Stadium on Saturday.

Chiefs were the first to open their account through a touchdown from Daniel Rona in the 9th minute before Daniel Flanders responded back with a try of his own after a burst from hooker Asofa Aumua in the 12th minute.

Hurricanes gained possession after a series of penalties with Jordie Barrett getting one over the line in the 20th minute to extend their lead to 10-5.

Cam Roigard added a second after flanker Du Plessis Kirifi flattened the Chiefs' receiver Luke Jacobson at a re-start after a penalty as the teams completed the opening half with a 17-8 scoreline.

The Chiefs showed better intent in the second half as backrower Pita Gus Sowakula crossed the whitewash and McKenzie improved it to ensure the gap came down to two points.

With McKenzie adding his second penalty goal in the 60th minute, Cortez Ratima dived over after going alone from an attacking scrum. As the closing stage was nearing, McKenzie extended the visitor's winning margin with a try of his own despite Bryn Gatland's sin-bin in the 74th minute as they completed a 16-point victory.
