Hurricanes captain Ardie Savea will miss between six to weeks of action after sidelined with a knee injury.

The 27-year-old sustained a torn medial collateral ligament on his left knee during the recently concluded Super Rugby Aotearoa game against Crusaders at Sky Stadium.

Savea struggled with his knee early in the second half but managed to carry on playing until the 62nd minute with heavy strapping on his leg. He will now miss the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa season for Hurricanes and also most of their trans-Tasman campaign.

“Unfortunately on the weekend I did my MCL so that’s going to take me out for 6-8 weeks, so unfortunately I’m going to miss some footy over that time, but it’s all good.

“Like life you get knocked down but you just gotta keep moving forward. Thanks for all the love and the messages. Keep supporting our Hurricanes, fam, and I’ll be back. Peace out.”

Hurricanes are languishing at the bottom of the Super Rugby Aotearoa table with a solitary win from six games and will face Chiefs and Highlanders in the final two rounds.
