Highlanders managed to end a six-game winless streak as they outplayed Blues with a 24-12 win in their Super Rugby clash at Forsyth Barr Stadium on Saturday.

The win has taken Highlanders to fourth position in the New Zealand Conference with 18 points while Blues are at third place after succumbing to their second consecutive defeat.

The Blues went all attack early in the game and almost found a breakthrough but their effort were thwarted by Liam Coltman. Nevertheless, they got their opening try in the 23rd minute when Tom Robinson touched down but the Highlanders responded back with a try from Shannon Frizell that was improved by Josh Ioane as the teams went into the break with a 7-5 scoreline.

With both the teams seeking breakthrough in the second half, the Highlanders was boosted by a penalty try in the 50th minute and six minutes later Matt Faddes also went over the line. Ioane scored the conversion and also the penalty to make the scoreline 24-5.

Fullback Melani Nanai Vai scored a consolation try for Blues in the final stage but that could not prevent Highlanders from completing a 12-point victory.
