Scorecard

Gloucester secured their first victory at home this season after defeating Wasps by 36-18 in their Aviva Premiership clash at Kingsholm on Saturday.

The Cherry and Whites lost their previous four games at home but this time they looked confident and amassed five tries as compared to Wasps, who had just two - both from Thomas Young.

Fullback James Hook scored the opening penalty for Gloucester but Young brought Wasps into the lead with a 11th minute try.

The lead lasted just eight minutes as hooker Richard Hibbard crossed over for the home team and Cook's conversion put Gloucester five points clear at half-time.

Even though, Jimmy Gopperth brought Wasps back into the lead with a double penalty, Gloucester struck back to back tries through Mark Atkinson and Matt Scott. Atkinson's try came after Danny Cipriani made a poor clearance.

In a desperate effort, Young strolled past the post for the second time in the 74th minute but Gloucester ensured there were no hurdles this time with Charlie Sharples and Henry Purdy capping off a fantastic game for the home team with tries in the closing stages which also provided them a bonus point victory.

Wasps are placed third despite the defeat while Gloucester now move to ninth.

Wasps rugby director Dai Young described the defeat as "disappointing".

"The result is disappointing but if anything the performance is more disappointing as we were second best in most departments.

"Gloucester haven't had a lot of luck this season, being on the wrong end of some close games. They are a good team so I have been wary of this game all week.

"We were pretty loose, our set-piece creaked and we lacked accuracy as we lost two scrums and two line-outs in attacking positions.

"We had an opportunity to fire some shots but we didn't take them. We still may have got a bonus point but we certainly didn't deserve any more than that."
