Gloucester Rugby have confirmed two senior appointments as part of a restructuring of the club’s rugby leadership ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Chris Boyd Appointed Gloucester Technical Director
Chris Boyd will join Gloucester Rugby as Technical Director on a consultancy basis from 1 March 2026. The experienced rugby leader will provide strategic oversight of the playing department, with head coach George Skivington and General Manager – Rugby Rob Burgess reporting to him.
Boyd’s responsibilities will include shaping the club’s long-term rugby strategy, reviewing training and tactical priorities, and supporting squad succession planning. He has previously held senior roles in Prem and Super Rugby environments and will combine remote engagement with in-person periods at Kingsholm.
Rob Burgess Named General Manager Rugby
Rob Burgess has been appointed General Manager – Rugby, effective from 1 April 2026. In this role, he will oversee key performance areas including medical, analysis, team operations and academy structures.
Burgess will also lead player recruitment and retention planning, strengthening the long-term framework behind Gloucester’s ambitions. He joins from Bath Rugby, where he served as Head of Recruitment, and has prior experience with Dragons RFC, the England senior men’s team and Gloucester Rugby in 2009.
“I’m delighted to be supporting Gloucester Rugby during this next phase of the Club’s development. Gloucester is a proud club with a passionate supporter base, and I believe there is huge potential within the playing and coaching group," said Boyd in a statement released.
"My role is to help bring clarity, alignment and a strong strategic focus to the rugby operation, ensuring everyone is pulling in the same direction.
“I’m looking forward to meeting up with the team and coaches when I travel over to Gloucester in April. In the meantime, I’ve hugely enjoyed working with Alex and Skivs to understand the opportunities ahead.”
