Fijian Drua have retained experienced hooker Penaia Cakobau for the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season after the front-rower impressed during his first campaign with the club.

Cakobau originally joined ahead of the 2026 season on a short-term injury-cover deal before earning an extension.

He made four appearances for the Drua during the 2026 campaign, providing additional depth across the front row.

Cakobau said he was grateful for the opportunity to represent the Drua again in 2027 as he looks to build on his encouraging first season with the franchise.

“I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to represent the Drua in the 2027 Super Rugby Pacific season.”

Cakobau Impresses With Front-Row Versatility

One of Cakobau’s standout moments came against the Western Force at Churchill Park in Round Nine, when he scored his first Super Rugby Pacific try.

Primarily a hooker, he also demonstrated his versatility by shifting to loosehead prop following an injury to Haereiti Hetet during the same match.

General Manager Rugby Baden Stephenson praised Cakobau’s physicality, work rate and ability to cover multiple front-row positions.

“We’re really pleased to have Penaia with us for another season.

"He came into our environment last year and took his opportunities well, showing his experience, physicality and versatility across the front row. He’s a strong competitor who works hard and brings a lot of value to our squad".
