Newcastle Falcons have confirmed the return of versatile back Ethan Grayson for the upcoming season, securing him on a one-year contract.
The 22-year-old previously impressed during a short-term spell with the club between September and December, contributing 28 points in nine matches.
Grayson initially joined the Falcons from Major League Rugby’s San Diego Legion during their off-season, making a notable impact before heading back to the United States.
Currently, he remains committed to San Diego Legion, where he continues to showcase his talent, recently earning man of the match honors after scoring a try and adding six conversions in a dominant 52-5 victory.
Once his commitments with San Diego conclude, he will rejoin Newcastle in the summer.
Newcastle Falcons’ Director of Rugby, Steve Diamond, expressed his enthusiasm about bringing Grayson back to the squad. “I'm delighted to be able to bring Ethan back to Newcastle for a second spell.”
Diamond highlighted the significant role Grayson played during his initial time with the team and acknowledged his integrity in honoring his existing contract with San Diego before committing to the Falcons.
Grayson’s rugby pedigree includes representing England at the Under-20 level and developing through the Northampton Saints’ academy system. He made five senior appearances for Northampton Saints and gained Championship experience with Bedford Blues.
At 6 feet 3 inches and 100 kilograms, he brings a blend of physicality and playmaking ability, covering multiple backline positions, including centre, fly-half, and full-back. His versatility is expected to bolster Newcastle’s attacking options for the upcoming season.
